Andy Thompson, Cofounder/CEO
Andy’s passion is helping people be safe before and after natural disasters and other catastrophic events. This led him to his career ambition of creating financial incentives for increasing safety & resilience. Andy has 20 years of experience as an earthquake and structural engineer, and founded and led the Catastrophe Risk & Insurance practice at the global engineering consultancy Arup. Here, he worked with corporations and governments around the world to better manage their catastrophe risk, from risk reduction to business continuity planning and insurance. This included supporting clients in numerous post-disasters situations from Japan to Chile to Haiti. He is coauthor of the book Peace of Mind in Earthquake Country, and was a recipient of Consulting-Specifying Engineer’s 40-Under-40 Award. He has a master’s degree in structural and earthquake engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
Doug Frazier, Cofounder/Chairman
Doug was the cofounder, Chairman and CEO of EQE International, a global company with 30 offices and over 750 employees. Over a period of 20 years, Doug transformed EQE into the leading internationally recognized catastrophe risk management company providing software and services to insurance and Fortune 500 companies and governments. Doug was also the cofounder, CEO and Chairman of EQECAT (currently owned by CoreLogic), providing catastrophe risk management services and software to financial industries worldwide. Doug was also Chairman and CEO of EQE Holdings, a specialty earthquake insurance broker and reinsurance company.
Clement Barthes PhD, Head of Technology
When Clement first met the Safehub team, he was running the largest 6-axes shaking table in the United-States at the Pacific Earthquake Engineering Research (PEER) center at UC Berkeley. Clement has experience and passion not only in structural engineering and dynamics, but also in wireless sensors, embedded software development, circuit board design, and structural health monitoring solutions. He is the author of Optecal, a digital image correlation software capable of measuring extremely small deformations using conventional cameras. Clement has a Ph.D. in structural engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
Alessio Vallero, Software Manager
Alessio brings passion and experience in software engineering to the team. This includes software development at Deltatre s.r.l., where he developed and maintained the FIFA.com website. He was also the Software Development Engineer at C System Global s.r.l. where he worked in development of high-scale .NET/Java applications related to video surveillance, cash validation, and business management. He received bachelors and masters degrees in computer engineering from Polytechnic University of Turin, Italy. At the University of California, Berkeley he was a Visiting Student Researcher, where he built several solutions to improve community resilience.
Alex Mead, Manager Technology
Alex brings expertise including embedded systems development, digital signal processing, and advanced mathematical modeling/simulation techniques to the Safehub team. His experience includes building the world’s first hardware-in-the-loop modeling platform for building energy use (The CUBE 2.0 System), as well as significant design and construction contributions to the Singapore-Berkeley Building Efficiency and Sustainability in the Tropics (SinBerBEST) Cyber-Physical Testbed. Further, Alex brings a hands-on passion for buildings, having worked several summer construction jobs in the Mid-West for general contractors including The Christman Company. Alex has a Ph.D. in systems engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
Alex Knoll, Electrical Engineer
Alex is an electrical engineer and passionate builder of hardware. His previous experience includes being an Information Technology Support Specialist at Haverford College; an Electrical Engineer for Ewing Cole, and a Software Development Co-op for Thermo Systems. He graduated from the College of Engineering at Drexel University with a Degree in electrical engineering technology.
John Daniello, VP Risk Management
John brings a background in financial risk management to the team having worked for more than 20 years at Goldman, Sachs & Co. His experience with capital markets includes corporate credit analysis, corporate financial advisory, merger and acquisition financing, and derivatives markets. John joined Goldman in New York after graduating from Boston College in 1995 with a degree in Finance. He has substantial international finance experience having lived and worked in Hong Kong, Tokyo and London.
Skip is an investor and an advisor to Safehub. He is currently the Chief Technology Officer of Nike, and previously, Managing Vice President of Engineering at Capital One and Chief Technology Officer of BT Enterprises.
David is an investor and advises Safehub on business strategy and technology development. He was a cofounder and Chief Technology Officer of Lumos Labs where he oversaw product development and technology operations for Lumosity. David is a coinventor of Lumosity’s cognitive training platform and its adaptive training algorithms.
Tim is an investor in Safehub, and advises Safehub in product development and realization. He is the cofounder of Savvius, Inc. and currently serves as Executive Chairman of the Board. Tim’s has 35 years of experience in the networking industry including being the founder and CEO of Kinetics and SilkStream.
David is an investor and advisor to Safehub. He is an award-winning digital and integrated marketing entrepreneur, executive, business builder, and returns generator. He is currently the CEO of the Electron Shop. He has been recognized as one of the top 100 most inspirational graduates in the 75-year history of the UCLA Anderson School of Business.
Dennis advises Safehub on catastrophe risk and modeling. He has over 40 years of experience in engineering, finance, and catastrophe insurance fields. He was Senior Vice President at EQECAT, in charge of risk modeling consulting and catastrophe bond capital markets. His team provided the risk assessment on the very first earthquake cat bond and the very first parametric trigger transaction in the capital markets.
